Consider the following:
I was of the understanding that the purpose of the unstable version
was to determine if there were bugs in a package which needed to be
corrected before release.
It is the job of the maintainer to avoid as many bugs as possible
before upload and to fix the ones discovered by others with reasonable
promptness by uploading a fixed version - if necessary, in
collaboration with upstream.
If the software goes into the testing distribution and is found to
contain bugs, then it will have no overall negative impact upon the
Debian release is those bugs are not fixed as the software will be
withheld from the release.
Many bugs are found (and fixed) in unstable. Serious bugs cause the
package to be removed from (or prevented from entering) testing. This
causes more work for the overloaded Release Managers and maintainers
who abuse/ignore/neglect or otherwise upset the RM team are not well
regarded by sane maintainers. Upsetting RM is a LARGE NEGATIVE.
Nothing you have said so far makes me think that you are willing to
discharge the responsibilities of a maintainer in Debian with any level
of competence. You appear to be deliberately misinterpreting advice
from all quarters and I do not have time to pursue this discussion
beyond this email. Please re-read the documentation and file a RFP bug
against WNPP for scsiaddgui. If someone is interested, that person can
do the job that you seem to be unwilling to perform.
If the software is found to have a non-security related bug after
release, according to my understanding Debian only releases security
fixes so this will not be addressed.
You really like making work for other people, don't you? Do you plan to
fix ANY of your own bugs? You are proposing to add a package to Debian
so YOU and YOU ALONE are primarily responsible for fixing the bugs
introduced into Debian by your package. As a non-DD your sponsor can
help you but the final accountability lies with you.
If the software does have a security issue then between the
security team and
the author of the software this should be able to be addressed.
No. It is YOUR job to liaise between Debian and upstream.
Please inform me of any errors in the aforementioned conclusions and
foreseeable issues which would constitute there actually being a
problem with creating a package to go into the unstable distribution
for testing.
Please re-read the docs.
Thank you for the explanations and I will reread the docs but I may
still have questions regarding them.
As to the rest of the negative things you have to say they are
entirely incorrect and completely based upon you own
misinterpretations. However, there is nothing I can do or say which
will affect the way you interpret input, so I will refrain from even
attempting.
