I think the style I proposed is most easily read because it is precisely
the same style used when giving a list of files via your shell.
$ ls a\ b c d\ e\ f g.*

People who haven't used a unix shell will encounter many issues
packaging for Debian, as shell quoting and escaping are common through
the packaging system.
