Changing from native packages to non-native sounds like increasing my
work-load for absolutely no gain to Debian (or myself). 
Harder to merge downstream changes? How? We know how to merge
patches don't we?

I do double-releases for other stuff; its a pain but for those cases
essential. I don't recommend it if you don't need to.
