I don't think anybody raised the issue of perfection

This issue I've observed is a relative one - it was working quite well
with squeeze over 2 years, and now it's not working (at least for me/my
hardware)

I have some systems where I would happily use those releases - and
others where I would not.  It depends on the user expectations.
