I did not test this either, but per
http://lxr.free-electrons.com/source/init/main.c#L906 and
http://lxr.free-electrons.com/source/init/main.c#L952 the kernel just
calls do_execve() on whatever init= parameter it's given or else a
short list of defaults (including "/sbin/init"), so symlinks _should_
work normally.
