That is probably not entirely correct, there are parts of the Ubuntu community, including Canonical employees, that definitely care about Debian, to the point that they are Debian members and fairly core contributors. Over the years Debian has had lots of new members/contributors who came from Ubuntu, especially due to the policy Ubuntu put in place a long while ago of sending new packages to Debian first. I myself only came to Debian because of another derivative, Knoppix.
