These are some of the points of Debian packaging, but not all of them. One thing that's notably missing is the integration work that we do to make packages work well together. That only really makes sense in a world in which dependencies are, generally, separately packaged. We already allow vendoring dependencies where the alternatives are completely unpalatable; there was a TC case about it a few years ago: <https://lwn.net/Articles/835599/>. Making that the norm, rather than a reluctantly accepted compromise, does not seem wise. -- Sean Whitton
