Refering to the release policy [1], you only need to spend *reasonably* effort on supporting release architectures. The first one to make the call what is reasonable is you. If things FTBFS, you can request removal by filing an RM bug against the ftp.debian.org pseudo package and as long as the build fails, you don't need to do anything further. Once the binaries on unsupported architectures are gone from unstable, the migration to testing will no longer be blocked by those FTBFS. See also [2].
