There don't appear to have been any binary uploads for quite some time (March, I believe), the entire suite was auto-pulled from testing 2 months ago with no follow-up action, and it looks like there are a couple outstanding CVEs. I can say that for those using Debian in a corporate or education environment, the lack of SSSD pretty much makes Debian unusable (it's how we [used to] plug into Active Directory enterprise auth/account providers). Do we need to solicit new (or more) maintainers for this? I would step in, but my bandwidth is limited and I'm not up to speed on the current Debian package maintenance policies and procedures.I've done drive-by uploads of sssd, and I'm happy to help co-maintain it, but I don't have the relevant sssd-knowledge to do any non-trivial packaging changes that appears to be required. Maybe you could start looking into packaging latest upstream, doing only minimal debian/ changes that is required to make it work? Put it on Salsa and upload to experimental if you are interested in joining the team (I'm hoping contributions are welcome).
I use sssd for account management on Debian machines at work, so I have some modest experience with it and I'm happy to help out where I can.
