I have just performed 3 different setups. HAMM, SLINK, and a hacked up Potato all with the 2.2.0-final (pre-9) kernel. This was the ONLY change I made to the system. All used ppp just fine including the ability for dial on demand and the interworking relationship with ipfwadm and ipmasq allowing me to forward connections from my internal ethernet network through my ppp interface and out into the internet.
