Dear dpkg team, This is a new aspect of the well-known "a conffile that vanishes across an upgrade can fool dpkg" bug. The conffile will not only be present after the upgrade. Moreover, it will be left over if the package is purged. I guess this might already be adressed by the Ubuntu patch, but I wanted to be sure that this part of the problem is known. Here's an example that shows the behavior.
