I neither wanted to berate you or the maintainers! I think you do a
great job and I'm well aware that maintaining one of the most essential
tools of Debian is a complex and time consuming matter. I'm really sorry
that you read it as rant! I will try to improve my wording next time and
avoid expressions like "lack of time".

What I wanted to express was the fact that I tried, failed and would
appreciate the help or guidance of the maintainers. Noone made a comment
on the bug for more than 4 years, so I thought it was simply forgotten.
I'm glad to hear it's not the case and feel sorry for that assumption.
