Package: dpkg-dev Version: 1.15.5 Hello dpkg developers,
dpkg-buildpackages set a bunch of general purpose environment variables before calling debian/rules (CFLAGS, CXXFLAGS, FFLAGS, LDFLAGS, MFLAGS, etc.). This cause some packages to build differently with dpkg-buildpackages or with 'debian/rules binary' and there is no consensus in Debian that it is a correct thing for dpkg-buildpackages to do, and there are no documentation how packages are supposed to deal with them and deal with builds done by 'debian/rules binary'. Please change dpkg not to set them for standard Debian builds. Cheers, -- Bill. <ballo...@debian.org> Imagine a large red swirl here.
