To clarify due to misunderstanding that seem to have happened: - Merged-/usr is planned to become the only supported layout for Debian in the future, cf. [1]. - Most Debian derivates will probably follow, some have already done so before Debian itself. So showing this warning in Debian derivates by default seems not a good solution; if a derivative wants this warning, they can patch it back in. Ansgar [1]: https://bugs.debian.org/978636#178
