Do you mean that nvi was never removed, or that it was and the copyright/nvi file wasn't ? The latter would be (almost certainly) a bug in dpkg, but I can't see how it could have come about. Do you have any other information ? Did dpkg or /var/lib/dpkg suffer any kind of other bizarre problems at any point between where nvi was installed and removed ? Ian.
