Subject: dselect insists on recommended packages Package: dpkg Version: 1.4.1.4 Severity: normal
During the transition to perg 5.005, some packages still reuire perl. lyx is one of them, in that it "recommends" it. Unfortunately, dselect insists on preferring this recommendation to the necessities of many other packages. That is, when making the last check before exiting from the Selection screen, dselect proposes to remove something like 30 packages in order to satisfy the recommendation of lyx. This behaviour is not reasonable. Dselsect should leave the things as they are, because satisfying a "recommends" should be less important than satisfying a "depends". It is not even possible to bypass it by holding the state o flynx, as this workaround is ignored. -- System Information Debian Release: potato Kernel Version: Linux pot 2.2.10 #3 Mon Jul 12 19:50:44 CEST 1999 i686 unknown Versions of the packages dpkg depends on: ii libc6 2.1.2-0pre1 GNU C Library: Shared libraries and timezone ii libncurses4 4.2-3.2 Shared libraries for terminal handling ii libstdc++2.9-gl 2.91.66-2 The GNU stdc++ library (EGCS version)
