I think re-using code is a good thing (tm) and using the same tools too :-)
And/but I also think you should ask this question again, two weeks or a month
after debian-edu/etch has been released, as then we will be much more happy
to start new developments than now, where we concentrate on fixing known bugs
than trying to get new ones ;-)
