If the identd or inetd as a wrapper is *really* secure (who knows that for sure?) then it wouldn't be a problem. If you want to use that box as dedicated router than you can safely let your router deny such requests. If you do masquerading and you want to have your clients answer to auth-requests (which should be impossible somehow) then you probably will have to write a daemon on your router which gives a static answer (let's say "bob" or something like that).
