It does no harm to translate this text, and this code is such a tangle that I think it worthwhile to clean it up a bit anyway. Something like this fnotice (file, "%s%s%s version %s (%s)\n", indent, *indent ? " " : "", lang_hooks.name, version_string, TARGET_NAME); #ifdef __GNUC__ fnotice (file, "%s\tcompiled by GNU C version %s", indent, __VERSION__); #endif would do just as well as we have now, and wouldn't cause i18n problems.
