The problem seems to be that the package expects to be built using fastjar (and build-depends appropriately), but the calls in the build process are just to `jar'. On my system (and presumably also the submitter's) this doesn't point to fastjar because several packages use the alternatives mechanism to provide a jar program. fastjar supports the `@' argument, whereas the others do not.
The Debian Java policy says that the build system should explicitly use a specific build environment and not rely on the alternatives mechanism. The fix is therefore to call make with JAR=fastjar. This package has a very convoluted build system, however, so I'm not going to try and produce a patch HTH, Matt -- Matthew Johnson
