Not sure what you are talking about exactly, but be advised that the
debian-science list is two things: (i) the maintainer contact address
for some group-maintained science-related packages and (ii) a general
list to discuss science-related development/packaging issues in Debian.

I used it in the second sense, and I do not scan every mail on the list.

Thanks for the pointer, I would've probably caught it if (i) you had
replied by the time I send the mail or (ii) it had a less generic
subject alluding to the issue at hand.

Are you at Debconf?  Maybe it makes sense to rather schedule a BoF and
discuss it there.
