Dear Debian GCC Maintainers! On a Debian testing armhf system, upon updating it, I have noticed that the installed size for the cpp-10 and gcc-10 packages would have increased unexpectedly. On amd64 the size for the newer version isn't significantly larger. Caught this as my armhf machine was low on space to begin with...
I would like to ask: is this size increase normal? See the "Installed-Size" values below on armhf: # apt-cache show gcc-10 | grep '^Package\|^Version\|^Installed-Size\|^Architecture\|^Status\|^Depends\|^$' Package: gcc-10 Version: 10.2.0-15 Installed-Size: 218927 Architecture: armhf Depends: cpp-10 (= 10.2.0-15), gcc-10-base (= 10.2.0-15), libcc1-0 (>= 10.2.0-15), binutils (>= 2.35.1), libgcc-10-dev (= 10.2.0-15), libc6 (>= 2.28), libgcc-s1 (>= 3.5), libgmp10 (>= 2:5.0.1~), libisl22 (>= 0.15), libmpc3 (>= 1.1.0), libmpfr6 (>= 3.1.3), libstdc++6 (>= 5), libzstd1 (>= 1.3.2), zlib1g (>= 1:1.2.3.3) Package: gcc-10 Status: install ok installed Installed-Size: 32482 Architecture: armhf Version: 10.2.0-7 Depends: cpp-10 (= 10.2.0-7), gcc-10-base (= 10.2.0-7), libcc1-0 (>= 10.2.0-7), binutils (>= 2.35), libgcc-10-dev (= 10.2.0-7), libc6 (>= 2.28), libgcc-s1 (>= 3.5), libgmp10 (>= 2:5.0.1~), libisl22 (>= 0.15), libmpc3 (>= 1.1.0), libmpfr6 (>= 3.1.3), libstdc++6 (>= 5), libzstd1 (>= 1.3.2), zlib1g (>= 1:1.2.3.3) And for control, on amd64: # apt-cache show gcc-10 | grep '^Package\|^Version\|^Installed-Size\|^Architecture\|^Status\|^Depends\|^$' Package: gcc-10 Version: 10.2.0-15 Installed-Size: 57436 Architecture: amd64 Depends: cpp-10 (= 10.2.0-15), gcc-10-base (= 10.2.0-15), libcc1-0 (>= 10.2.0-15), binutils (>= 2.35.1), libgcc-10-dev (= 10.2.0-15), libc6 (>= 2.14), libgcc-s1 (>= 3.0), libgmp10 (>= 2:5.0.1~), libisl22 (>= 0.15), libmpc3 (>= 1.1.0), libmpfr6 (>= 3.1.3), libstdc++6 (>= 5), libzstd1 (>= 1.3.2), zlib1g (>= 1:1.1.4) Package: gcc-10 Status: install ok installed Installed-Size: 57432 Architecture: amd64 Version: 10.2.0-13 Depends: cpp-10 (= 10.2.0-13), gcc-10-base (= 10.2.0-13), libcc1-0 (>= 10.2.0-13), binutils (>= 2.35.1), libgcc-10-dev (= 10.2.0-13), libc6 (>= 2.14), libgcc-s1 (>= 3.0), libgmp10 (>= 2:5.0.1~), libisl22 (>= 0.15), libmpc3 (>= 1.1.0), libmpfr6 (>= 3.1.3), libstdc++6 (>= 5), libzstd1 (>= 1.3.2), zlib1g (>= 1:1.1.4) For the cpp-10 package, the increase is similar on armhf: # apt-cache show cpp-10 | grep '^Version\|^Installed-Size\|^$' Version: 10.2.0-15 Installed-Size: 201788 Installed-Size: 15897 Version: 10.2.0-7 Kind regards, Laszlo Varkonyi
