One can begin with: for f in `locale -a` do echo -n `LANG=$f locale language` echo " $f" done After some more processing (removing duplicates, aliases -- ie. when $f is different from C, POSIX, ?? and ??_??.* -- and putting all locales for a given language on a single line), it should become suitable for GDM.
