Ben dropped db1 compatibility support in 2.2.5-13 (released to sid yesterday), and this removes libdb.so.2, and this causes apache to choke on startup with the error message: Starting web server: apache/usr/sbin/apache: error while loading shared libraries: libdb.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory And ldd /usr/sbin/apache reveals that it is indeed missing: libdb.so.2 => not found But, when I step libc6 back to 2.2.5-10, everything is peachy. Now, I don't know if this is a case of Ben not doing his homework (the changelog states that the only issue he knew of was with the Coda people), or if its with apache not stating its depends explicitly enough, but I had a guess that it was more of the latter which is why I am reporting the bug here. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux strike.homelinux.org 2.4.18 #3 Sun Apr 7 15:19:56 CDT 2002 i686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C Versions of packages apache depends on: ii apache-common 1.3.26-1 Support files for all Apache webse ii dpkg 1.10.4 Package maintenance system for Deb ii libc6 2.2.5-10 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libdb2 2:2.7.7.0-7 The Berkeley database routines (ru ii libexpat1 1.95.2-6 XML parsing C library - runtime li ii logrotate 3.5.9-10 Log rotation utility ii mime-support 3.19-1 MIME files 'mime.types' & 'mailcap ii perl [perl5] 5.6.1-7 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction -- no debconf information --------------------------------------- Received: (at 155904-close) by bugs.debian.org; 17 Oct 2002 14:39:40 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Oct 17 09:39:39 2002 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from auric.debian.org [206.246.226.45] (mail) by master.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.12 1 (Debian)) id 182BoJ-0003Eb-00; Thu, 17 Oct 2002 09:39:39 -0500 Received: from katie by auric.debian.org with local (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 182Bha-0006Sl-00; Thu, 17 Oct 2002 10:32:42 -0400 From: Jeff Bailey <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Katie: $Revision: 1.26 $ Subject: Bug#155904: fixed in glibc 2.3.1-1 Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sender: Archive Administrator <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Thu, 17 Oct 2002 10:32:42 -0400 Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-0.3 required=5.0 tests=LARGE_COLLECTION,PGP_SIGNATURE,SPAM_PHRASE_00_01, SUPERLONG_LINE version=2.41 X-Spam-Level: We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of glibc, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: glibc-doc_2.3.1-1_all.deb to pool/main/g/glibc/glibc-doc_2.3.1-1_all.deb glibc_2.3.1-1.dsc to pool/main/g/glibc/glibc_2.3.1-1.dsc glibc_2.3.1-1.tar.gz to pool/main/g/glibc/glibc_2.3.1-1.tar.gz libc6-dbg_2.3.1-1_i386.deb to pool/main/g/glibc/libc6-dbg_2.3.1-1_i386.deb libc6-dev_2.3.1-1_i386.deb to pool/main/g/glibc/libc6-dev_2.3.1-1_i386.deb libc6-pic_2.3.1-1_i386.deb to pool/main/g/glibc/libc6-pic_2.3.1-1_i386.deb libc6-prof_2.3.1-1_i386.deb to pool/main/g/glibc/libc6-prof_2.3.1-1_i386.deb libc6_2.3.1-1_i386.deb to pool/main/g/glibc/libc6_2.3.1-1_i386.deb locales_2.3.1-1_all.deb to pool/main/g/glibc/locales_2.3.1-1_all.deb nscd_2.3.1-1_i386.deb to pool/main/g/glibc/nscd_2.3.1-1_i386.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached.
