That worked:

        $ sudo bash
        Password:
        # mv /bin/uname /bin/uname.orig
        # cat << EOF > /bin/uname
        #!/bin/sh

        /bin/uname.orig $* | sed 's/2.4.20mh04/2.4.20/'
        EOF
        # chmod 755 /bin/uname
        # apt-get upgrade
