Soname ensures (or should ensure) ABI stability. Meaning that each program linked against version of a library with a certain soname should run with any newer version of that library with the same soname. The library packaging guide has some info about this and how to name debian library packages: http://www.netfort.gr.jp/~dancer/column/libpkg-guide/libpkg-guide.html#shlibpkgs Sjoerd -- Reality is for people who lack imagination. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
