I'm trying (for the fourth time) to install Debian 3.0 to an HP L2000 with no luck. It works until it gets to "Install Base Files" and fails with the message "Failure while configuring required packages" and then "debootstrap exited with an error (return value 1)". I'm using CD's as I don't have an internet connection.
I'm installing from CD onto one of the internal 9G drives (0/0/2/0.0.0). My partition setup is: sda1, Linux/PA-RISC, boot, Primary, 24MB sda2, ext2, Primary, Mounted on /boot, 75MB sda3, swap, Primary, 800MB sda5, ext2, Logical, Mounted on /, 8205MB Here's the /var/log/messages file: Nov 20 18:32:32 (none) syslog.info syslogd started: BusyBox v0.60.3-pre (2002.01.21-23:29+0000) Nov 20 18:32:32 (none) user.info init: Starting pid 55, console /dev/console: '/sbin/udbootstrap' Nov 20 18:32:32 (none) user.info dbootstrap[55]: dbootstrap starting; built 2002.05.16-10:01+0000 for hppa Nov 20 18:32:32 (none) user.info dbootstrap[55]: serial console found on line 0 Nov 20 18:32:34 (none) user.info dbootstrap[55]: Unmounting partition mounted at /instmnt Nov 20 18:39:28 (none) user.info dbootstrap[55]: formatting swap partition /dev/sda3 Nov 20 18:40:02 (none) user.info dbootstrap[55]: Initializing partition /dev/sda2 as Ext2 for kernel 2.2 or better Nov 20 18:40:45 (none) user.info dbootstrap[55]: Initializing partition /dev/sda5 as Ext2 for kernel 2.2 or better Nov 20 18:41:01 (none) user.info dbootstrap[55]: Mounting ext2 partition /dev/sda5 on /target Nov 20 18:41:12 (none) user.info dbootstrap[55]: Mounting ext2 partition /dev/sda2 on /target/boot Nov 20 18:44:58 (none) user.info dbootstrap[55]: making symlink from /dev/sr0 to /dev/cdrom Nov 20 18:44:59 (none) user.info dbootstrap[55]: installing kernel and modules from /instmnt/dists/woody/main/disks-hppa/current Nov 20 18:45:02 (none) user.info dbootstrap[55]: loop: can't get info on device /dev/loop0: No such device or address Nov 20 18:45:06 (none) user.info dbootstrap[55]: Unmounting partition mounted at /instmnt Nov 20 18:45:06 (none) user.info dbootstrap[55]: kernel and module install was successful Nov 20 18:45:06 (none) user.info dbootstrap[55]: moving away /lib/modules to /lib/modules.old Nov 20 18:45:06 (none) user.info dbootstrap[55]: making /lib/modules a link to /target/lib/modules Nov 20 18:45:12 (none) user.err dbootstrap[55]: Remember that many drivers are already included in the running kernel.
