For "purge" you should probably clear any active translator before removing
the node.  Use `settrans -gaf NODE'.  The -f tells the translator to go
away even if there are users, i.e. processes that have the node open.
(Without -f, settrans will fail with "Device busy" (EBUSY).  With -f, users
will lose their ports to the node and if they try to use it they will get
errors and/or SIGLOST.)
