OK, I re-installed K3 and am getting the same results. I forgot to mention earlier that yes I do have a 256Mb Swap partition and it is enabled.
What about the amount of RAM? If I don't enable swap (its around 500mb) on my laptop with has 380MB of RAM and I start doing fun stuff I also start to get those panics.
