messages about crashing during libc, but the talk was all about how to
reconfigure libc so it wouldn't crash when compiling...though we
shouldn't crash even for bogus compiles.
There are some bugs that are hard to reproduce and debug. Examples:

GNU Mach is generally not rock-solid (e.g. failed zalloc:s).
The ext2fs patch introduces a tiny bit of instability that shows up in buildd-like environments. I'm inclined to blame Mach for that but it requires time to investigate in detail.
