Hi, | A dumb question, is 6in4 different to 6to4? Not a dumb question.
6in4 is the method of encapsulating IPv6 packets as payload in ordinary IPv4 packets. 6to4 is a specific method of calculating the IPv6 address using the IPv4 address. Take IPv4 number 192.2.0.1, write it in hex: "c002:0001" and prepend 2002: to that, forming a unique IPv6 prefix 2002:c002:0001::/48 which "belongs" to the mentioned IPv4 address. Everybody who wishes to send IPv6 traffic to this box can encapsulate the IPv6 packet into an IPv4 packet destined to c002:0001 aka 192.2.0.1, which makes the encapsulation transparant and non-configurable for endusers. Not everybody agrees on weather we should actually use it though :) -- Met vriendelijke groet, BIT BV / Ing P.B. van Pelt PBVP1-RIPE (PGPKEY-4DCA7E5E)
