Hello, Thank you for your interest in improving Debian, and sorry to keep the bug unattended for so long. There's now an effort to review the open bugs related with aptitude. It seems to me that this is a more general problem and not related with aptitude, and that aptitude can do little about it anyway. Doesn't it happen with other applications, e.g. web browsers? I saw the same behaviour with my computer at work, stopping for ~5 seconds with many dns resolutions, and had to disable IPv6 as well to fix the behaviour (maybe there are nicer ways though). In any case, again, I think that it's not a problem with aptitude and that aptitude itself can do very little to prevent this; so I think that this bug should be either closed or assigned elsewhere.
