Note the difference between <VirtualHost www.smallco.com> and <VirtualHost 10.0.0.1>
The first is the setting for name based virtual hosts, i.e. various virtual hosts sharing one IP (make sure you have one or many "NameVirtualHost 10.0.0.1" as well) - in contrast to ip based virtual host where each virtual host has it's own IP.
