If you have users with normal names (ie: supported by PAM) you might use libpam-mysql and saslauthd, else you have to patch cyrus-sasl package. The patch is easily to find googling around: http://frost.ath.cx/software/cyrus-sasl-patches/ I suggest to use libpam-mysql if you can. cosimo.
