Almost all the software (Mozilla etc.) utilized the GTK-2 input methods which worked flawlessly. But only OpenOffice which relies on the Xinput input system failed to work because Xinput was not correctly set up on my system. I don't know anything about SCIM, but I successfully made Xinput work with uim-xim. You could try to enter the following commands into an xterm to verify whether uim-xim works on your machine: uim-xim& export XMODIFIERS="@im=uim" sleep 3; oowriter Does that work?
