The libraries should be built on the user's machine. This can be done via the postinst, and by and a debconf option to turn it off or on. It maybe a good idea to come up with a debconf script to automatically add it to your postinst.

I tend to agree. If we manage to handle this transparently on the user machine, we will:
1) reduce the stress on the autobuilders and the mirrors 2) avoid confusing users with -native replicates of java packages.
