Greetings (again), (I'm not sure if you are supposed to summarise your findings on these lists, or whether you are supposed to top or bottom post, but here goes...)
I sucessfully installed the new JRE plugin and got it going on Iceweasel; Bigpond Office Word Editor applet and the Java Console appear to working OK, here is a quick praise of what I did, (basically RTFM): 0. Downloaded the self-extracting file called "jre-6u5-linux-i586.bin" from http://java.com/en/download/linux_manual.jsp 1. Decompress (as root???): cd /usr/share/java chmod a+x jre-6u5-linux-i586.bin ./jre-6u5-linux-i586.bin (you get the idea, am teaching you how to suck eggs???) 2. Set the Symlink: cd /usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins ln -s /usr/share/java/jre1.6.0_05/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so 3. Set up the Java console: cd ../extensions/ unzip /usr/share/java/jre1.6.0_05/lib/deploy/ffjcext.zip 4. Arc up Iceweasel and wait for everything to load!!! The Install instructions does not mention debian; it confines itself to Red Hat and Suse... Thankyou for your bandwidth, CUL8r, fcG.
