The problem started with gcj version > 4.4, and it was the same for openjdk-6 (which was switch back to gcj-4.4 on mips/mipsel when the problem started). However I have never been able to really understand the problem, and I understand we can't keep gcj-4.4 eternally in the archive. I hope someone with more time will be able to dig into the problem, the code is there to support mips, so there should not be that much to change.
