you must list your printer in /etc/printcap in order for kde to recognize it
i, for example use the pdq program and have to put something like : Brother| The worthtrusty Brother HL-1250 Printer:\ :lp=|/usr/bin/pdq -PBrother:\ :mx#0:\ :sh: in my printcap file, if your printer is known to other deamons, your lp line will look different, varying from the program you use i'm not an expert on this topic but it works for me like that (got it from the man pages and the linux printing howto) P.
