Congrats. > the thig was that I did not generate any iso-8859-1 charmaps !!! But what did you do to generate an iso-8859-15 (or do you really mean iso-8859-1?) charmap? (So, what could I do to create one?) Was it just the right locale setting? I tried - as suggested here - setting LANG to de_DE.ISO-8859-15 and LC_ALL to "de_DE.ISO8859-15" but to no avail. I still get a question mark and locale charmap is iso-8859-1. I guess, that's really the question now, how to get the locale charmap to iso-8859-15. Exploring things a little further I found that there is a dead softlink from /usr/share/locale/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/LC_COLLATE and /usr/share/locale/de_DE.ISO-8859-15/LC_COLLATE to a non existing file ../ISO-8859-15/LC_COLLATE. But there is no such file and no directory /usr/share/locale/ISO-8859-15. Could that be the problem? And if so, how could I get to such a file and directory? Thanks again, Andreas Gösele
