More exactly: mkdir -p -m 1777 /tmp/.ICE-unix To not fiddle with file that migh get updated, put those commands into /etc/init.d/ICE-unix.sh and link /etc/rcS.d/S56ICE-unix.sh to that. This way, it will never get overwritten by an update.
