Maybe you need to check whether your kaboom is installed by 'dpkg -l kaboom'. As of my personal experience, if you only have part of the kde* stuff upgraded (while others might not yet be available in your respo which was my case last week), the kaboom won't be installed automatically. Only when all kde-base* kde-workspace* stuff are upgraded to 4.2.2, kaboom will be effective.
