SYMTOMS

The combination of LVM2 + Kernel 2.6.11 + Reiserfs 3.6 periodically
paniced about 1-2 times a month during period of more than 6 months.

BACKGROUND

The 60G laptop hard drive was partitioned using standard Debian
netinstaller using one vg0 group (LVM2) containing 3 partitions:

/var    <= ext3
/usr    <= Reiserfs
/home   <= ext3

Like below. However this listing no longer show the reserfs parition, since
the problematic partition was recently converted to ext3.

    /dev/mapper/vg0-home on /home type ext3 (rw,data=journal)
    /dev/mapper/vg0-usr on /usr type ext3 (rw,data=journal)
    /dev/mapper/vg0-var on /var type ext3 (rw,data=journal)

OTHER INFORMATION

See the atached notes in case they provide some more light to this
situation. As for testing why this happend I'm unable to shed more
light into this. I no longer use reiserfs partitions. The Laptop
served for:

- MTA; Exim 4.52 (daemon heavy)
- Database; Postgres 7.4.7
- Version control; CVSd server 1.0.7

The services were not under heavy load (average load value 0.1-0.5) with
312M memory since they served only small home network.

The PC was connected with

- WiFi; Orinoco Lucent gold 10Mb

Any of the above disk I/O may have triggered the corruption or then it
may be something with reiserfs and kernel interoperability.

reiserfs is well knwon as an unstable fs.
if you care about your data please switch.

upstream is working on it and latest revisions made progress on the error
checking front.
