You need to have (temporarily at least) removed the signed package indeed, as they are conflicting. If you do it with apt-get install ./path/to/local/package.deb all the surronding work should be done as well. (And you have the 18 ABI kernel still installed to which you can go back if th test package does no work). After testing, make sure to reinstall the linux-image-amd64 package again.
