Package: initramfs-tools Version: 0.148.3+nmu1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer,
----------------------------------------------------------- commit 0df1765e902e56d9698beacc1cc056f327ed58c2 Merge: f740273 19b85a5 Author: Ben Hutchings <[email protected]> Date: Tue Mar 25 23:58:06 2025 +0000 Merge branch 'block-modules' into 'debian/latest' Filter block kernel modules by symbol regex from dracut See merge request kernel-team/initramfs-tools!149 ------------------------------------------------------------ Has effectively halted reiser4 software format release number (SFRN) 4.0.2 on a root '/' partition from being able to boot into new Trixie installation via Debian-Installer (d-i). Additionally, if in an existing system with a root '/' partition formatted in reiser4, initramfs-tools v0.148.3 and v0.150 leave the system unbootable *if* manually applying either of referenced initramfs-tools versions. Both versions of initramfs-tools generate similar output during the Debian Trixie boot phase (last fragment): .. Begin: Running /scripts/local-block ... done. Begin: Running /scripts/local-block ... done. Begin: Running /scripts/local-block ... done. done. Gave up waiting for root file system device. Common problems: - Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline) - Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?) - Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev) ALERT! PARTUUID=STUV-WXYZ does not exist. Dropping to a shell! BusyBox v1.37.0 (Debian 1:1.37.0-6+b3) built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands. (initramfs) ---END of FRAGMENT---- < https://metztli.it/initramfs-tools > On the other hand, during a couple of upgrades from Bookworm to Trixie, where the root '/' file system is reiser4 and enabling the Debian upgrading routine by changing in /etc/apt/sources.list the relevant strings from bookworm to trixie, reboots proceed normally, as when the system(s) were booting in Bookworm. The last reiser4 bootable initramfs-tools was v0.146, i.e., when the above referenced commit had not been applied/merged. Stripping away that commit in hook-functions, and building initramfs-tools v0.148.3+nmu1, then manually installing nmu1 version via a rescue mode operation fixes the reiser4 booting issue. -- Package-specific info: -- initramfs sizes -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 48M Aug 30 00:40 /boot/initrd.img-5.17.0-3+reizer4.0.2-amd64 -- /proc/cmdline BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-5.17.0-3+reizer4.0.2-amd64 root=PARTUUID=cea87cad-e12e-5c4e-998e-61742409c11b ro quiet -- /proc/filesystems reiser4 fuseblk ext3 ext2 ext4 -- lsmod Module Size Used by snd_seq_dummy 16384 0 snd_hrtimer 16384 1 snd_seq 86016 7 snd_seq_dummy snd_seq_device 16384 1 snd_seq ctr 16384 1 ccm 20480 3 iptable_nat 16384 0 nf_nat 57344 1 iptable_nat nf_conntrack 180224 1 nf_nat nf_defrag_ipv6 24576 1 nf_conntrack nf_defrag_ipv4 16384 1 nf_conntrack libcrc32c 16384 2 nf_conntrack,nf_nat iptable_mangle 16384 0 iptable_filter 16384 0 8021q 40960 0 garp 16384 1 8021q stp 16384 1 garp mrp 20480 1 8021q llc 16384 2 stp,garp rfcomm 90112 4 bnep 28672 2 binfmt_misc 24576 1 ext4 950272 1 mbcache 16384 1 ext4 jbd2 163840 1 ext4 crc32c_generic 16384 0 intel_rapl_msr 20480 0 intel_rapl_common 28672 1 intel_rapl_msr x86_pkg_temp_thermal 20480 0 intel_powerclamp 20480 0 btusb 65536 0 btrtl 28672 1 btusb snd_hda_codec_hdmi 77824 1 coretemp 20480 0 snd_ctl_led 24576 0 btbcm 20480 1 btusb btintel 45056 1 btusb snd_hda_codec_idt 69632 1 btmtk 16384 1 btusb kvm_intel 368640 0 snd_hda_codec_generic 98304 1 snd_hda_codec_idt bluetooth 884736 28 btrtl,btmtk,btintel,btbcm,bnep,btusb,rfcomm iwldvm 159744 0 ledtrig_audio 16384 2 snd_ctl_led,snd_hda_codec_generic mac80211 1081344 1 iwldvm kvm 1060864 1 kvm_intel jitterentropy_rng 16384 1 sha512_ssse3 49152 1 sha512_generic 16384 1 sha512_ssse3 drbg 45056 1 libarc4 16384 1 mac80211 ansi_cprng 16384 0 irqbypass 16384 1 kvm ecdh_generic 16384 1 bluetooth snd_hda_intel 57344 1 mei_hdcp 24576 0 snd_intel_dspcfg 32768 1 snd_hda_intel ecc 45056 1 ecdh_generic snd_intel_sdw_acpi 20480 1 snd_intel_dspcfg iwlwifi 327680 1 iwldvm crc16 16384 2 bluetooth,ext4 snd_hda_codec 176128 4 snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec_idt i915 3153920 10 snd_hda_core 114688 5 snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_codec_idt ghash_clmulni_intel 16384 0 snd_hwdep 16384 1 snd_hda_codec aesni_intel 380928 2 snd_pcm 151552 4 snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_core snd_timer 45056 3 snd_seq,snd_hrtimer,snd_pcm crypto_simd 16384 1 aesni_intel cryptd 28672 2 crypto_simd,ghash_clmulni_intel snd 110592 15 snd_ctl_led,snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hwdep,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_timer,snd_pcm,snd_hda_codec_idt ttm 86016 1 i915 drm_kms_helper 339968 1 i915 mei_me 45056 1 cec 61440 2 drm_kms_helper,i915 at24 28672 0 soundcore 16384 2 snd_ctl_led,snd rc_core 65536 1 cec mei 155648 3 mei_hdcp,mei_me hp_accel 28672 0 pcspkr 16384 0 lis3lv02d 28672 1 hp_accel cfg80211 1064960 3 iwldvm,iwlwifi,mac80211 i2c_algo_bit 16384 1 i915 hp_wmi 24576 0 platform_profile 16384 1 hp_wmi sparse_keymap 16384 1 hp_wmi wmi_bmof 16384 0 joydev 28672 0 rapl 20480 0 sg 36864 0 intel_cstate 20480 0 rfkill 32768 7 hp_wmi,bluetooth,cfg80211 intel_uncore 208896 0 evdev 28672 49 button 24576 0 ac 20480 0 drm 618496 8 drm_kms_helper,i915,ttm i2c_dev 24576 0 efi_pstore 16384 0 fuse 172032 1 configfs 57344 1 nfnetlink 20480 1 ip_tables 36864 3 iptable_filter,iptable_nat,iptable_mangle x_tables 53248 4 iptable_filter,ip_tables,iptable_nat,iptable_mangle autofs4 53248 2 reiser4 577536 2 zstd_compress 315392 1 reiser4 hid_generic 16384 0 usbhid 65536 0 hid 151552 2 usbhid,hid_generic sd_mod 65536 5 t10_pi 16384 1 sd_mod crc_t10dif 20480 1 t10_pi crct10dif_generic 16384 0 ahci 49152 4 libahci 49152 1 ahci r8169 102400 0 rtsx_pci_sdmmc 32768 0 iTCO_wdt 16384 0 libata 389120 2 libahci,ahci intel_pmc_bxt 16384 1 iTCO_wdt iTCO_vendor_support 16384 1 iTCO_wdt sdhci_pci 73728 0 xhci_pci 20480 0 cqhci 32768 1 sdhci_pci psmouse 184320 0 watchdog 32768 1 iTCO_wdt sdhci 81920 1 sdhci_pci ehci_pci 20480 0 crct10dif_pclmul 16384 1 scsi_mod 266240 3 sd_mod,libata,sg realtek 32768 1 xhci_hcd 315392 1 xhci_pci crct10dif_common 16384 3 crct10dif_generic,crc_t10dif,crct10dif_pclmul i2c_i801 32768 0 ehci_hcd 98304 1 ehci_pci mdio_devres 16384 1 r8169 crc32_pclmul 16384 0 crc32c_intel 24576 4 serio_raw 20480 0 libphy 159744 3 r8169,mdio_devres,realtek usbcore 327680 6 xhci_hcd,ehci_pci,usbhid,ehci_hcd,btusb,xhci_pci i2c_smbus 20480 1 i2c_i801 scsi_common 16384 3 scsi_mod,libata,sg rtsx_pci 110592 1 rtsx_pci_sdmmc mmc_core 200704 4 rtsx_pci_sdmmc,sdhci,cqhci,sdhci_pci lpc_ich 28672 0 usb_common 16384 3 xhci_hcd,usbcore,ehci_hcd wmi 36864 2 hp_wmi,wmi_bmof battery 28672 0 video 57344 1 i915 -- /etc/initramfs-tools/modules crc32c_intel reiser4 -- /etc/kernel-img.conf #
