Did you find time to make this images building on i386?
The neccesary changes are AFAIK:
arch/x86_64/Makefile: Add -m64 to CFLAGS/AFLAGS (see
debian/s390/Makefile)
arch/x86_64/ia32/Makefile: Remove -m64 and add -m32.
