I'm getting this exact problem; the exact problem described in the bug report. With a Compaq Preasio 1230. I can't install with 2.4 for various other reasons. Is there any way to force it to use IRQ 15 for ide1? That seems to be the primary difference between the functional 2.4 kernel and the broken 2.6 kernel.
