don't get why it wasn't there in the first place.
which version of the lvm2 package are you using
dpkg -l lvm2

no we won't add additinal cmdline arg,
the scenario you described works, you may have
to pass relevant rootdelay=X param

or if you are using lilo use it's append arg
with correct root arg there.
