My /etc/network/interfaces :
# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# wifi
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
pre-up /sbin/ifconfig wlan0 up # tried with and without that line
wpa-conf managed
wpa-ssid my_essid
# wpa-key-mgmt WPA-PSK
wpa-psk _my key_

I tried linux-image-2.6.29-rc7-amd64 too ; it doesn't work either.

The ethernet interface doesn't work with sis190 ; but works in 32 bits mode
( vmlinuz-2.6.28-1-686 )

ath9k works with ubuntu 8.10 on the same machine,
kernel vmlinuz-2.6.27-11-generic
