Not xbacklight's fault. xserver-xorg-video-intel used to offer a few methods for changing the backlight, defaulting to platform drivers providing /sys/class/backlight/*. With KMS the i915 driver should probably provide a fallback if there's no platform driver for backlight. Cheers, Julien
